President John Dramani Mahama has officially inaugurated the members of the Constitutional Review Committee, tasking them with reviewing and strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions.
The committee, chaired by Professor H Kwasi Prempeh, comprises renowned legal scholars, political scientists, and civil society leaders, including Prof. Kwame Karikari,Justice Sophia Adinyirah, and Mrs. Charlotte Osei.
Their mission is to identify gaps in the current constitution, engage with stakeholders, and formulate recommendations to ensure the constitution remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the Ghanaian people.
He swore them into office at a ceremony at the seat of government, the Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday January 30.
“Your work will not be in vain, this will not be an exercise in futility,” he told the members.
Professor Kwasi Prempeh, the Executive Director of CDD-Ghana, is leading the committee that has a six-month deadline to complete its task, starting from today, Thursday, January 30, 2025.
This committee’s work is crucial, and with Professor Prempeh at the helm, they’re expected to make significant progress in reviewing and strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions.
The committee consist of legal scholars, political scientists, and civil society leaders, all recognized for their expertise and commitment to good governance.
President Mahama stressed the need for the committee’s work, noting ,
“This review is crucial to ensuring that our Constitution remains a living document, responsive to the evolving needs and aspirations of our people.“
