Rose Yeboah Amoanimaa and Edwin Gadayi were honored as the Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively, at the 49th SWAG Awards held on Friday, January 24, 2025. Their outstanding performances in 2024 brought immense pride to the nation and set a high standard for future Ghanaian athletes.
Rose Yeboah had an exceptional year, highlighted by her gold medal victory at the 13th African Games. Her remarkable performance in the high jump not only cemented her status as Ghana’s top athlete but also earned her a coveted spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Edwin Gadayi, on the other hand, showcased his sprinting prowess at the Confederation of African Athletics Region II Championship, delivering an impressive performance in the 100m final. Despite narrowly missing out on qualification for the Paris Olympics, his resilience and determination have inspired countless young athletes across Ghana.
The ceremony also celebrated other industry figures, including Bright Kankam Boadu of Pure FM, who was named SWAG Journalist of the Year. In his acceptance speech, he highlighted the struggles of Ghana’s amputee football team, emphasizing their need for unpaid bonuses and greater support. His remarks called attention to the challenges faced by athletes in less-recognized sports.
