Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister-Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, has called for a restructuring of the ministry to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness in promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and creative arts. Speaking during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, she noted that overlapping responsibilities within the ministry need to be addressed to improve its operations.

“I also know that a restructuring of the ministry will be important going forward because some responsibilities overlap. But these are things that, once the structures are properly set in place, we can address,” Gomashie explained. Key institutions under the ministry, including the Ghana Tourism Authority, film and culture commissions, museums, theaters, and training institutes, could benefit from clearer roles and streamlined operations.

Gomashie, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, brings a wealth of experience to the role. As a renowned actress, producer, and scriptwriter, as well as a Queen Mother in Aflao, she has a deep understanding of Ghana’s cultural and creative industries. Her background positions her uniquely to champion initiatives that will revitalize the sector and maximize its potential for national development.

Her proposal reflects her commitment to strengthening the ministry’s capacity to deliver on its mandate. By addressing structural inefficiencies, Gomashie believes the ministry can better serve its purpose and help Ghana fully harness the economic and cultural benefits of tourism, creative arts, and heritage preservation.
