Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, is urging young people to establish strong careers before committing to politics full-time. He believes a solid professional foundation is crucial for navigating the pressures of public service and maintaining financial independence while pursuing political ambitions.

Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 20, 2025, Agbodza shed light on the financial challenges of political life. He noted that constituency responsibilities often require significant personal resources, far exceeding the salaries earned from public office. This financial burden, he explained, underscores the need for supplementary income streams.

Agbodza shared his own experience, explaining that much of what he spends in his constituency comes from his consultancy work and small business ventures rather than his political salary. He emphasized that political office alone is insufficient to meet the financial expectations of communities, particularly in underprivileged areas, where constituents often rely on politicians for support.

He advised young people aspiring to enter politics to gain practical work experience and build sustainable livelihoods first. “My advice to the young man who wants to enter politics is to get a day job that is sustainable first,” he said, emphasizing the importance of financial stability for integrity and sound decision-making in public service.
