Kwame Agbodza, the Roads Minister nominee, has called for the removal of restrictions on statutory funds, particularly the Road Fund, to enhance project financing and ease government debts to contractors. During his vetting on January 20, Mr. Agbodza criticized the Ministry of Finance’s practice of withholding significant portions of the Road Fund, which undermines its purpose and worsens financial burdens for contractors.

He emphasized that decapping the fund would allow full access to its revenue, enabling timely payments to contractors and reducing interest on debts. Agbodza pledged to prioritize completing stalled road projects nationwide during his first year in office, aligning with the president’s agenda to improve road infrastructure.

He also highlighted the need to resolve long-standing issues in road construction, improve road safety, and ensure efficient use of resources to complete ongoing projects effectively.
