President Mahama Orders Investigation Into Obuasi Clash

President John Dramani Mahama is deeply saddened by the clash that occurred between illegal miners and security personnel in Obuasi on Saturday, January 19.

The President has expressed his regret and concern regarding the incident and has called for a thorough and prompt investigation.

In a statement released on Sunday, January 20, and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the acting spokesperson for the President, it was emphasized that the investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fatal clash and to ensure that those found guilty of unlawful actions face legal consequences.

The statement also mentioned that the government has urged AngloGold Ashanti, the mining company operating in the area, to cover the medical expenses of those injured in the incident. Additionally, the company is to assist with funeral arrangements for the deceased as directed by the government.

Furthermore, security agencies have been instructed to restore peace in the area and implement preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
