Afro-rock band Osibisa has lost its founding member and saxophone legend, Teddy Osei.
The legendary musician passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as announced by Bessa Simons, President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (GHAMRO), in a media statement.
Teddy Osei is best known as the leader of the Afro-pop band Osibisa, which he founded in 1969. He originally created a semi-professional band with his brother and some friends, known as the “Comets.” This band achieved success in Ghana, recording with Philips West Africa and performing on a radio show.
Osibisa’s music was inspired by “Highlife,” a genre that combines European and African musical influences.
