The media was given a rare opportunity to witness the exciting progress of the Marine Drive Project in Accra during an exclusive tour on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Led by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey, the tour showcased the transformative development taking shape along the historic Osu coastline, near the iconic Osu Castle.
Spanning 241 acres, the Marine Drive Project aims to create a dynamic hub that combines modern architectural design with Ghana’s rich maritime heritage. The project’s standout features include a stunning waterfront promenade offering panoramic views of the Gulf of Guinea, eco-friendly recreational spaces, and state-of-the-art cultural exhibition facilities designed to boost tourism and foster local engagement.
During the tour, Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey expressed confidence in the project’s potential to revitalize the Osu coastline. “This initiative not only preserves the rich history of the area but also creates a sustainable pathway for economic growth and opportunity,” he noted.
The lead contractor assured attendees that the project remains on schedule, though a specific opening date has yet to be finalized due to the scale and complexity of the development.
In his remarks, the Osu Chief emphasized the importance of community involvement, highlighting that the project is designed to respect local traditions while promoting progress. He urged stakeholders to ensure that the initiative remains inclusive and beneficial to all.
Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Titus Glover, highlighted the project’s potential to generate jobs, especially for the youth in Osu and Ga Mashie. “This is not just a development for Osu but for the entire nation. It’s a step towards empowering our young people and building a prosperous future,” he stated.
Providing further insights, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, presented blueprints and detailed the project’s various phases. He emphasized the use of sustainable building practices and local materials, positioning the Marine Drive Project as a model for environmentally conscious urban development.
