Afenyo-Markin Calls for Parliamentary Recall to Address Urgent Government Business and Critical Bills

In a never-ending cycle of recalls and indefinite suspensions of the House, Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has requested for a recall to enable the lawmakers transact outstanding business.

The Member of Effutu said the recall would afford the legislature the opportunity to demonstrate unity by carrying out its responsibilities in the national interest.

He said the outstanding “urgent Government Business” was very important hence the need to reconvene and deal with them.

“These Government Business include;

Request for Tax Exemptions for designated beneficiaries under the One District, One Factory Programme.
Ghana Financial Stability Fund, an International Development Association facility of Two Hundred and Fifty Million United States Dollars ($250,000,000).
Consideration of the President’s Nominations for Appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court.
Ratification of the Mining Lease Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Ghana (Represented by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources) and the Ashanti Bauxite Company Limited for the Mining of Bauxite in the Nyinahini Block 2 Area in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
Ratification of the Mining Lease Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Ghana (Represented by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources) and Barari DV Ghana Limited for the Exploitation of Lithium at Ewoyaa in the Central Region,” he wrote in a memo to Speaker Bagin.
Leader Afenyo-Markin further listed seventeen bills the House needed to consider including the Environmental Protection Agency Bill, 2024, Social Protection Bill, 2023 and Free Secondary Education Bill, 2024.

He called on the Speaker, Alban Bagbin to consider scheduling the recall for November 28 and November 29, 2024.
