The Electoral Commission (EC) has informed the public that any votes cast for the Ghana Freedom Party’s (GFP) candidate, the late Akua Donkor, in the upcoming December election will be nullified.

Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, confirmed this information during an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, November 16.

He explained that although Akua Donkor’s name and image will appear on the presidential ballot paper, any votes cast for her will be rejected. “We have 12 candidates, so any vote for Akua Donkor would be annulled. She cannot win,” he stated.

Dr. Asare added that the EC is actively educating the public to minimize invalid votes on this matter.

This clarification comes after the disqualification of Philip Appiah Kubi, another candidate from the Ghana Freedom Party, which means Akua Donkor’s presence on the ballot paper is merely formal.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, explained during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on November 12 that the ballot order will remain unchanged despite the disqualification. She noted, “The printing of presidential ballots is already 90 percent complete,” adding that retaining the current structure prevents unnecessary delays .
