Ghana Police Launch Investigation into Shooting at Agona West Political Rally, Four Injured

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident. This incident occurred during a political rally in the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region.

The shooting took place on the evening of Sunday, October 27, 2024, and resulted in four individuals being injured. According to a statement from the Police, two of the victims have been treated and discharged. The other two stay hospitalized. They are receiving medical care.

The statement continued, “The Police have been actively working on the case throughout Sunday night when the incident occurred. They are closing in on the perpetrator. Their aim is to ensure an arrest is made and justice is served.”

The incident occurred during a clash between supporters of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, and those supporting the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Chris Arthur, while both camps were campaigning in the area.

Madam Morrison has denied any involvement in the shooting incident in Agona Swedru. Speaking on JoyNews’ Election Brief, she stated, “I must be very frank with you, I did not hear the gunshot.” She added, “After the shooting, I called all the boys I work with. I asked if anyone had a gun. They said they didn’t have one. We all attended a wedding before the event. How we have carried a gun to an occasion like this?”

She concluded by stating that she not determine whether the incident was an attempted assassination on her life.
