A nationwide demonstration organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) called “Enough is Enough Demo” turned violent in Kumasi. The protest was against the Electoral Commission (EC), and clashes broke out between the police and some protesters at the Commission’s regional office.
The agitated crowd was prevented from joining the NDC executives as they tried to present their petition to the Ashanti Regional EC boss as part of the Enough Is Enough protest.
This led to a heated confrontation, resulting in the breaking of barricades and the shattering of the office’s glass doors. A policewoman was reportedly injured, and three people were arrested amid the sounds of gunshots.
Tensions remained high as some NDC executives met with the commissioner in the building, away from the chaos outside. Supporters outside chanted, demanding access to the facility.
The Police denied reports of a shooting incident at the Kumasi EC office and stated that “no demonstrator has been injured by the Police.” However, some demonstrators who forced their way into the compound of the EC office were restrained as peace negotiations were underway .
