Ekon Residents Threaten to Boycott Elections Over Lack of Sea Defence Amid Tidal Wave Crisis

Residents of Ekon in the Cape Coast Metropolis of the Central Region are living in fear as their homes and livelihoods are being threatened by strong tidal waves gradually eroding the communities by the shore because the community needs sea defence to protect their properties.

Over the weekend, the entire community of Ekon a fishing Community at Cape Coast together with the Chiefs and Elders of the community crowded in red clothes with a slogan
“NO SEA DEFENCE NO VOTES in Ekon”,

They engaged the press in the community claiming that, the sea had swept and destroyed about 150 Households leaving many residents displaced without a comfortable place to sleep.

They’re however calling on the government to respond to their cry before this year November.

“Due to these waves some family members have even lost their love once imagining the cost of damage cost by the sea storm, All economic activities have ceased because they have been denied a fishing landing site and brake waters” a resident bemoaned.

Addressing their challenges. The Chief Fisherman man Nana Tawiah II, Said they will vote against the ruling government if nothing is done before elections because they feel the current government have disappointed and neglected them.

Nana Kwame Edu Ababio II the chief of the community described the devastating impact of the tidal waves on his land and appealed to the Government to help the community with sea defence because the sea is eating them away.
