The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been relieved of his duties, along with Road Minister, Kwame Amoako-Atta, Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, and Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery. The recent changes involve a significant shake-up of the cabinet, with about 13 ministers of state affected, including ten cabinet ministers and two regional ministers.
In the reshuffle, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has moved to the Housing Ministry, while his deputy, Fatimatu Abubakar, takes over as the new minister. A press release from the presidency on February 14 listed the sacked ministers, those reassigned, and the newly appointed ministers.
There has been pressure on President Akufo-Addo to sack Mr Ken Ofori-Atta with some Majority MPs also joining the chorus.
In October 2022, the President defended his cousin saying he was there was no basis for such an action.
According to him, Ken Ofori-Atta has discharged his duties “excellently” and he cannot relieve such a person of his position.
He maintained that Mr. Ofori-Atta shouldn’t be held responsible for the country’s current economic challenges.
