The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has revealed that approximately 7,600 people lost their lives in road accidents between January and June 2024.
The NRSA attributed most of these fatalities to wrongful overtaking and drivers’ failure to observe road signs.
The Head of Public Relations at the NRSA, Pearl Adusu Sateckla, described the situation as deeply concerning.
She stressed the need for stricter adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic occurrences.
According to her, these alarming findings underscore the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and driver education to reduce the high number of fatalities on roads.
The contributory factor might be as a result of head-on-collision, and it is a result of wrongful overtaking and overspeeding.
Research has shown that about 90% of our drivers plying our roads in the country do not adhere to speed limits.”
