The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has advised the public as part of measures being taken to help protect lives and properties amidst the heavy downpour of rain lately.
ADO1 Alex King Nartey, from the communications department of the GNFS, Dunkwa On-Offin municipality in an interview with Denkyiraman Radio stated that the Fire Department is there to help in ways they can to protect residents and their properties.
However, he explained that what they can’t do is force people to desist from certain behaviours that endanger their lives during rainfall.
“It’s not advisable to walk, ride or drive during heavy downpours or winds, there’s no need to try to get to your destination on time and risk your life in the process. Rather staying at a better and safer place should be the individual’s first thought” He advised.
He cautioned that there could be flying objects, falling electricity wires or poles during torrential rains and wind and this could be dangerous.
ADO1 Alex Nartey added that parents especially should be careful of leaving their young children to walk on the streets. Also, people should remember to switch off electrical gadgets when leaving their respective homes to avoid fire outbreaks.
He concluded that people who make calls during rainfall should put a stop to it, and also desist from charging electrical gadgets beside their beds as it is possible to catch fire during thunderstorms.
