UDEMA Sanitation Unit vows to arrest stray animals – Abdul Rahman Fatau

The Municipal Senior Environmental Health Assistant, Abdul Rahman Fatau in the Upper Denkyira East, has made a clarification on the impoundment of stray animals in the municipality.

Mr. Rahman in an interview on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda said any stray animal found will be taken by officials assigned to do so.

He added that any individual whose animal(s) would be taken can come to the assembly and give reasons why the animal is on the street and if the reason is tangible enough, the animal would be released to its owners.

Aside that Animals who has just had babies yet left their cages to be on the street, can be claimed back by the owners and it’ll be released.

Mr. Rahman explained that most of these animals left on the streets, tend to descend on other people’s properties and
Destroy them. The animals also defecate in the town causing filth around.

This comes in the wake of the EPA’s recent activity on Friday, 20th April, A team went round to undertake the task of removing all stray animals on the streets of Dunkwa.

Some animal owners whose animals were impounded were not satisfied with the actions of the Agency and, therefore complained bitterly to Denkyiraman News Network.

Some said their animals were not found when they went to the Assembly to claim their animals, while others complained of the animals breaking their cages while they were not around.

Mr. Abdul Rahman in the interview admitted that the Agency though is responsible for the impoundments, they are not responsible for owners not being able to identify their animals when they come to claim them.

He concluded by advising that all animals including dogs, should be kept at their appropriate cages and places to avoid animal destruction, infringing the environmental laws.
