John Alister: ‘Killer’ house help jailed 20 years for GHC167,000 theft

The Asokwa Circuit Court has sentenced the house-help who allegedly murdered his boss at Apaaso near Sokoban in the Kumasi Metropolis, to a 2-year jail term for stealing.

The convict, John Alister, was found guilty of two counts of stealing early this week, but the case was adjourned to Friday for sentencing.

John Alister, while on the job as a hotel receptionist at Bantama in Kumasi, bolted with his employer’s Infinix Note 8 mobile phone and withdrew an amount of 167,660.09 cedis from her account using a mobile app.

He rented and furnished an apartment in Accra with the proceeds of the crime. The complainant reported the matter to the police and he was arrested and charged.

John Alister’s plea was rejected by the court. He will serve the jail sentence which runs concurrently.

The convict is expected to appear before the Asokore Mampong District Court on 17th October for a hearing in the case concerning the alleged murder of his madam.

The police gave the deceased’s name as Princess Afia Ahenkan, 35.

Allister John was reportedly employed by the deceased through an Accra-based recruitment agency.

Reports indicate that the deceased had dropped her son, a 12-year-old boy in school on the morning of the incident and returned to the house.

The police suspect the killing took place between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. on September 11, 2023.

After the incident, the suspect reportedly locked the body in a garage and bolted the vehicle together with the goods.
