COCOBOD CEO Projects Over 800,000 Metric Tonnes of Cocoa Despite Weather Challenges

The chief executive officer of the Ghana COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo is projecting the country could produce over 800,000 metric tonnes this year despite the recent challenges due to the poor weather pattern.

Ghana has recently been grappling with lower yields due to several factors such as El Nino, a severe global climate phenomenon.

Conservative figures put yields at an average of 500,000 metric tonnes in the last couple of years which is far lower than expected to generate the required for the state and to boost producer prices for farmers.

Boahen said the country’s current weather pattern and new interventions will make it possible to realise the target.

“I can say that we can make 800 metric tonnes if the farmers follow all the interventions at play, we may even make another record,” he said.
