Govt to terminate some road contracts – Osei-Mensah

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, announced that the government is planning to cancel certain road contracts in the Ashanti region due to delays. The government has assured its strong commitment to completing major roads that connect farming communities in the Ashanti region to its capital, Kumasi, and other regions.

Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, expressed concern about the negative impact of poor road networks on residents in and around the Asante Akim South Municipality. He mentioned that the government plans to terminate the 12km road project between Komeaboye and Kokoben, as well as the 8km road project between Obogu and Kumeso, due to delays. These projects will be reassigned to a different contractor for completion.

The roads were initially awarded to three contractors. However, the contractors at the beginning and the end have completed their portions, while those in the middle have not. The government believes it is necessary to terminate and reassign these projects, possibly to the contractor who constructed the other roads within the same area.

Additionally, the minister highlighted the importance of addressing critical routes, such as the 8.5km road between Obogu and Kumeso, which links the Asante South Municipal Assembly to the Birim North in the Eastern region.

The minister made these statements after inspecting the progress of the Juaso through Nkwanta to Obogu 7km road construction, Banka through Otuokwai to Kokoben 10km, and Komeaboye to Saabo junction.
