Obuasi Police Command Grips A 27-Year-Old Military Man For Galamsey Robbery.

A Soldier stationed at Airborne-Tamale, currently on Operation Duty at Bawku, Lance Corporal Opoku Eric is in the grips of Police in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for attempted robbery.

Lance Corporal Opoku Eric of the Ghana Armed Forces was arrested after he and three other colleagues stormed a mining site at Nyamesom Yɛde near Kwabenakwa in the Obuasi East District while his three colleagues are currently on the run.

Upon interrogation, the Military Man disclosed to the police that they were at the site to look for their “chop money” since they were on leave for 14 days.

He said they just fired warning shots and the workers on site took to their heels. They then took hostage an excavator operator, but luck eluded him when the miners fought back, and he was arrested and presented to the police when they got to the site.

The Police retrieved a pump action gun, knives and other offensive weapons upon the arrest.

Lance Corporal Opoku Eric is currently in Police custody and is helping with investigations.
