The Aspiring Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency in the Western Region, Hon. Ernest Frimpong, affectionately known as “COSTARO” in an interview with the media on 24th March, 2024 has disclosed his journey so far and the way forward in his quest for the MP for his constituency.
Hon. Frimpong said he is and has always been a son of the soil, born and raise in Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East, therefore one of his major aspirations was to restore permanent electricity generation in the Municipality which had faced a low shedding for years.
“I made sure of lobbying for transformer, to ensure easy access to electricity. Also street lights for certain areas in Wassa Akropong which had security issues due to total darkness in the evening”, he said.
He Again said that the consistent complains from drivers in the Municipality about always having to travel to far for licensing of vehicles, was worrisome and an issue that needed to be addressed. He made a three days provision for DVLA representatives in his own funding so that drivers could have their licenses renewed and New ones also received.
Ernest Frimpong bragged about this Easter Gala which is organized yearly and funded by him with support from his camp leaders.
“The Ernest Costaro Easter Gala has come to stay, lots of sabotaging and questioning came from the opposition party and its leaders in the constituency when I decided to bring it in existence. But I can say it with all confidence that the “Ernest Costaro Gala” has paved way for the youths in the municipality to exhibit their God given talents. Two guys who played during the gala and now with Academies in Kumasi and Accra are being chased by teams from Germany and preparations towards their next move is underway”, he added.
Speaking of the way forward till he gains the seat in the next general elections, Ernest mentioned that the government hospital in Wassa Akropong which is supposed to be treating the sick, is somehow producing malaria to people, especially visitors who see the need to sleep by their patients through the night, he said this is going on because the hospital has no place of convenience where people like that get to rest.
He continued that a place of convenience is underway with the help of some opinion leaders to construct a better place for such purpose.
“Consistent electricity supply and standby generators at the hospitals, most especially the Government hospital where patients are transferred to for emergency cases is very important and I suggest shouldn’t be politicized.
“ I have therefore lobbied for a 200kb generator which will be available at the hospital to support the electricity supply in case of lights out”, says the aspirant.
“The biggest investment in the history of Wassa Amenfi is the extension we’re about to do from Bawdie to Nkonya to help expand the light source in the Municipality and taking light to verging communities”, he expressed.
Challenges in schools in Wassa Akropong and its Environs is mostly based on places where children will sit and learn, this is sad, knowing for a fact that we’re surrounded by trees that can be useful to us.
120 desk has been funded by me, 80 are ready and will be delivered to selected schools with critical needs, while we await on the rest.
“It’s sad that Teachers and health professionals are not acknowledged for their works and contributions to the development of the Municipality. Teachers tirelessly strive so we become what we aspire for in our lives. Doctors and nurses on the other hand make sure that the Municipality is not lacking health services yet these people are not awarded In anyway for their good work done. “I will be awarding nurses and Doctors will be awarded annually for their efforts. These will be done with special packages funded by me, starting this year 2024”, says Hon. Ernest.
Lastly Ernest Frimpong disclosed that effective miners forum will be held come 5th April 2024, to educate them and put them under one umbrella to avoid the insecurities and dangers associated with their lives in the line of work.
“We are Inviting dignitaries to join the forum to share their thoughts on the issues illegal miners are facing. This is to stop the torment from security personnel who invade the sites of “galamseyers”.
I know operation “ galamstop” is in the system but the rampant visitation and harassment from the security personnel is too much, 5th April is the end of Wassa Amenfi illegal Miners harassment”he concluded.
