Don’t indulge yourselves in criminal and violent activities – Mr. Sadik Adutwum

The West Africa Center for Counter-Extremism,(WACCE) together with Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA). Is hosting a two day capacity-building workshop for civil society organizations on violent extremism and peace building.

The event was held at the Municipal Assembly Hall at Dunkwa On-Offin of the Central Region, on Wednesday 20th March 2024 and ends on 21st March 2024.

The workshop is explained to be part of activities planned under mining for peace projects, themed;
“Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism in Mining Communities”.
The sensitization workshop is set to bring together 50 youths, opinion leaders, Chiefs, experts and government institutions to participate and be abreast with the latest rise in extremist attacks, terrorism and organized crimes across West Africa. Also to increase awareness in the mining communities as part of prevention mechanisms.

The event was chaired by the Facilitator of the West Africa Counter-Extremism ,Mr. Sadik Adutwum. He gave an insight of the forum and urged everyone present to be an advocate for the peace process in their respective areas.

Mr. Sadik advised that every individual should also take the “See Something, Say Something” Initiative seriously.

He said this will help identify bad people with evil intentions amongst us in various communities.

“Lots of able people are taking advantage of the situation of youths unemployment and poverty to indulge them in criminal activities and violence especially in mining communities, there’s the need to educate these young people and advice them on the dangers of what they’re endangering themselves with, this is why we’re here and thus the need for the workshop”,he added.

Some attendees after the workshop spoke with Denkyiraman Radio, expressing their happiness on how impactful and important the workshop was to them.

The leader of the Yoruba tribe in Dunkwa said he’s excited about the outcome of the workshop, as he’s a victim of a war scene and knows how important peace is to every country.

Alhaji Mohammed Mutala advised that youths especially those in mining areas should protect the lands that were left behind by their forefathers and if they decide to mine, they should do it wisely and peacefully.
