PWDs in Upper Denkyira East municipal Assembly receives support.

Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Upper Denkyira East Municipal of the Central region have received items worth thousands of cedis to help them support themselves and their families.

The Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly together with the Social Welfare department on Monday 4th March, 2024 held an event at the forecourt of the social welfare office to support some selected Persons with Disability, marginalized and vulnerable in the society in the municipality.

The event which was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Ebenezer Forson Appiah, the New Patriot party constituency Chairman, Nana Mensah, Assembly Members and some heads of department at the assembly.

Items distributed included refrigerators, fufu pounding machines, Sewing machines among others were received by PWDs. The donation formed part of the three percent (3%) share of the Assembly’s Common Fund to support the PWD’s.

On his part the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Appiah Forson,
expressed government’s commitment towards empowering Ghanaians irrespective of their circumstances in life by continuing to initiate pro-poor policies to reach out to all.

He again appealed to the beneficiaries to put the items into a proper use. He cautioned the PWDs not to sell the items given to them but rather make good use of them and even purchase another to expand their businesses for a better life.

Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organization, Mr Adu Amoah Ebenezer, shared sentiment on the stigma that people with disabilities go through on the streets and in their respective societies. He also thanked the Social Welfare department and MCE for the support they have rendered.

Mr. Ebenezer pleaded on the public to desist from any stigmatization and treat persons with disabilities as though they were family.

Many of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Municipal Assembly for its dedication to improving their lives.

In all, 62 benefitted with an estimated amount of GH¢97,000.00
