259 MMDAs inaugurated nationwide… as assembly members take office

The 259 out of 261 metropolitan, Municipal and district assemblies have been inaugurated yesterday as the local government Act2016(Act 936) stipulates.

In the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, the 5th Inauguration was held at the Assembly hall where 42 Assembly members were sworn into office.

The Inauguration Ceremony was graced by the deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Hon. Augustine Collins Ntim,
the Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East Constituency, Hon.Festus Awuah Kwoffie , the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Appiah Forson, Denkyira Kontihene, Dr. Odiamono Ntiri Twum Barima, Dunkwahene, Dr. Obeng Nuako III and other notable members.

42 Assembly members in total, both elected and appointed were Inaugurated, and sworn in.

After the Inauguration, the Presiding Member Election was also held and the Assembly member for Atechem Electoral Area in Dunkwa who was already the presiding Member, Hon.Kwasi Owusu won for the third consecutive term as the Presiding member for the Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly.

On his part the deputy minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Hon. Augustine Collins Ntim,
He urged the assembly members to fully embrace all central government policies and programmes rolled out and implement them at the local level to achieve the intended objective to improve the lives of the ordinary people.

He added that he will do everything possible to support the various Metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies with the requisite projects.

Some of the assembly members in appreciation for their honorary status vowed to work effortlessly to the development of the municipality. The presiding member, Hon. Kwasi Owusu Antwi after swearing in promised to also work effectively with the help of the government appointees and his colleagues to ensure a hundred percent productivity for the municipality.

Finally, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Appiah Forson pledged to give the municipality a face lift and leave a remarkable legacy behind.
