Ghana Supporters Union denies abandonment claims

The general secretary for the Ghana Supporters Union, Mr. Kassim Awal has addressed the press on some allegations from the Ghanaian supporters who went to Abidjan for the 2023 Afcon tournament. The supporters have made some claims of lack of welfare and proper care from the Union since they got to Abidjan. Mr. Kassim Awal said all allegations are untrue and must be ignored by the general public. He said before embarking on the trip, they were assured of all incentives before the black stars first game, this was ensured by the Ministry for Youth and sports together with their Accountant respectively. Again he said accusations made by ‘One Man’ supporter that the ministry gave out 2000 supporters to embark on the trip to Abidjan is also not true. Mr.Kassim Awal said 20 buses occupied the number of Ghanaian supporters who went for the tournament. Also supporters who went are neither friends and families of certain Ministers as claimed by One man supporter, as the Union comprises of various groups that come under one umbrella to make the uniform group.

According to him, 210 supporters, officially sponsored by the Ministry of youth and sports for the trip, received a $400 stipend.
However,One Man Supporter has been making these allegations based on insubordination and some malpractice cases surrounding him.

“ He said openly and clearly that he’s no longer a member of the Ghana Supporters Union, he is selfish and wants everything for himself” Kassim Awal stated.
